Getting Started

How do I sign up?

  • Use KC our friendly support agent located at the bottom right of kc.mushana.io via chat or voice.
  • For yourself: Click "For myself" to receive your own check-in calls (Solo Plan)
  • For a loved one: Click "For my family" to set up calls and monitoring for someone you care about (Family or Circle Plan)

We use passwordless authentication (passkeys or magic links) - no passwords to remember!

Does my mum/dad need wifi or an app?

No! This is the best part—your loved one doesn't need:

  • Any smartphone or app
  • Wifi or internet connection
  • Any technical knowledge

They simply answer their existing phone—landline or mobile. The call works just like any other phone call. You handle all the setup from your end.

Do I need a credit card for the free trial?

No! Start your 14-day free trial with no credit card required. We'll only ask for payment details when you're ready to continue after the trial.

What phone number will the calls come from?

Calls come from a consistent phone number that you can save in your contacts. Where possible, we try to provide a number local to the person's location. We'll share this number when you set up your first call schedule.

Note: Service availability depends on your telephone provider. Currently calls will come from a US or Australia number with more regions on request and depending on availability in that region.

How It Works

What happens during a call?

Our AI companion has a warm, natural conversation asking about their day, how they're feeling, and what they've been up to. It picks up on emotions and can discuss topics that matter to them.

After each call, you get a brief summary highlighting the conversation and any concerns.

Does it sound like a robot? Will they get confused?

It sounds remarkably human. Our AI uses advanced voice technology that's warm, natural, and conversational—not robotic or stilted. You also get to pick the preferred voice and language, and in most cases you can switch languages mid conversation.

Most people quickly get comfortable with the calls. The AI:

  • Speaks naturally with appropriate pauses and inflection
  • Responds to what they actually say (not scripted responses)
  • Remembers details from previous conversations
  • Can handle tangents and topic changes gracefully

We're transparent that it's an AI—but the goal is meaningful connection, and the technology delivers that.

Can I customise what's discussed?

Yes! You can set preferences for:

  • Topics to ask about (hobbies, family, health, pets, garden, etc.)
  • Language preference (English, and more coming)
  • Call duration and frequency
  • Time of day for calls (in their timezone)
  • Biography and personal details so the AI knows them
What if they don't pick up?

No problem! If they miss a call, we'll try again later if you have retries configured through your dashboard.

You'll be notified if multiple calls are missed—this could indicate something needs your attention.

What are emotional insights?

During conversations, our AI picks up on emotional cues like tone of voice, word choice, and conversation patterns to understand how someone is feeling.

Examples of what we detect:

  • Mood changes (e.g., "seemed cheerful today" or "sounded a bit down")
  • Signs of loneliness or social isolation
  • Expressions of worry or stress
  • Enthusiasm about activities or hobbies
  • Mentions of health concerns

These insights help you understand what's really going on, not just the "I'm fine" you might hear on regular calls.

What is the emotional wellbeing score?

After each call, we provide an emotional wellbeing score from 0-10 based on the conversation. Our AI analyzes tone, mood, and content to give you an at-a-glance view of how someone is feeling.

The score is shown as color-coded badges:

7-10

Good spirits

Engaged, positive mood, energetic

4-6.9

Neutral

Calm, routine conversation, might be tired

0-3.9

Needs attention

Distressed, low mood, withdrawn

Important: Patterns over time are more meaningful than any single score. One lower score doesn't mean something is wrong—but a consistent downward trend is worth checking in about.

Who can see my call summaries?

Your privacy is paramount. It depends on how your account is set up:

  • Self-managed (Solo Plan): Only you can see your call summaries. Nobody monitors you—it's completely private. You control everything.
  • Circle Keeper(Family/Circle Plan): Your keeper can only see summaries if you give explicit consent. We require them to confirm they have your permission before accessing any information.

Important: We never store full call transcripts in our database. Only brief AI-generated summaries are retained.

For Myself (Solo Plan)

Why would I sign up for myself?

Many people use KC as a daily companion for:

  • Regular social connection without burdening family
  • A friendly voice to start or end the day
  • Personal reflection through call summaries
  • Peace of mind knowing a friend or family contact is on file

Your calls are completely private—nobody monitors you.

What's an emergency contact (Ohana)?

You can add a trusted person's phone number as your emergency contact. If something seems wrong during a call—or if you ask—the AI can offer to connect you directly to them, or reach out on your behalf.

This gives you independence while knowing help is available if needed.

Privacy & Security

Are my conversations recorded?

We never store full transcripts in our database. Conversations are processed by our AI partner to generate brief summaries, then the transcript is automatically deleted after 30-90 days depending on your plan.

What we keep: AI-generated summaries, emotional scores, and call metadata (duration, time). What we don't keep: actual conversation recordings or full transcripts.

Is my personal information safe?

Yes. We use industry-standard encryption for all data. We never sell your information to third parties.

Can I delete my data?

Absolutely. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time by sending a email to support-kc@mushana.io

Billing & Plans

Can I change my plan?

Yes! You can upgrade or downgrade your plan anytime from your dashboard. Changes take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.

How do I cancel?

You can cancel anytime from your account settings. No cancellation fees. You'll continue to have access until the end of your current billing period.

Do you offer refunds?

We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you're not satisfied within the first 30 days, contact us for a full refund.
